Introduction

This English-style park of 20 hectares, created in 1 804 by Aglaë Adanson, is France’s oldest private botanical and floral park. The arboretum of Balaine combines the architecture of the English gardens of the 19th century with collections of exotic species and surrounds a typically inhabited Bourbonnais castle. A park where, by intermingling conifers and deciduous trees, one could believe oneself transported to the primitive forest of the mountains of the south of China.

The castle

The typical Bourbonnais castle is still habited in the shape of a U with two levels and attics on the courtyard side of the central facade with a projecting pediment, the whole flanked by turrets at the corners of the three-level roofs.

  • 8€ for children, free for children under 8 years old ;
  • 7€ for Handicapped ;
  • 7€ for the Adult group with a minimum of 20 people.
